Exam file name : D1T6MET.ZIP Title conquered : DOOM 1 Tyson Author : Mike Toliver Completion date : 1997 08 25 Game and version used : Ultimate Doom v. 1.9 Log entry : 19970816 0422 CHAL: D1T6 MET 33 27 16 (01) 19970816 0422 : Mike E Toliver Substitutions? : N/A System used : 486 DX2 66, 8 megs ram, P166 with 16 megs RAM for e1m6tuv.lmp (with no sound card) Controls used : Keyboard, default setting. Free interpretation : 18, fist only, 200% health Comments : My first challenge included e2m9, e1m9 and e4m3. The two secret levels weren't a problem, but I couldn't handle e4m3 - just can't punch those barons. So, here's the second challenge. e3m3 - Used the pistol more than I would like - got in a little trouble early. Once I got the berserk pack, I was (almost) home free. e2m7 - Again, too much pistol, because I got in trouble early. Again, the presence of a berserk pack (and invulnerability) makes this relatively simple if you get past all the pigs at the beginning. The dance is before I open the blue door. e1m6 - This was a pain - not because it's so hard, but because I had a decent lmp (10 minutes shorter than this one) and I forgot the @#$%&*@ dance. So, I had to do it again and I kept making stupid mistakes. I do the dance twice, just to be sure... The key to this one (for me) is to go into the last room with lots of bullets so you can pistol-whip all those pigs and spectres. Free interp - e1m8, pacifist style. This shows the famous "barrel trick" for disposing of barons, for all you "pacifists" out there. I think one could do this "pacifist tyson" - 100% kills w/o harming any monsters. I had one lmp where EVERYBODY (including myself) was killed, but I lost it. Something to shoot for... Author info : I'm a biology professor with an obsession for DooM - too many late nights playing DooM while the rest of the family sleeps and I should be working on a lecture or sleeping! I'm also a marine combat vet of Vietnam... This is my sixth DHT6 title (I have six DHT5 titles as well). Thanks to George Bell and the Tyson collection folks - though I didn't use any of their ideas for these levels I have used them in other levels and contexts.
