When making this recording the goals evolved as the LMPs piled up. I would get one thing figured out then start thinking: "I wonder if it would be possible to ... so here is the list: 1. Use Combat Shotgun only to take out Cyber-Demon. 2. Finish as fast as possible. 3. Do not use any of the power-ups. 4. Do not use any Stimp Packs or Med Kits. 5. No hiding, everyone gets a shot. 6. Finish 100% 100% 100% 200% 200%. These are the results: the Cyber-Demon goes down after 23 shots from the Combat Shotgun. The level was completed in 2:49 with the Marine taking 3% damage to health for the entire level. Did everyone get a shot at him? Hard to say, more or less I think (not a really fair one for some of the storm troopers though). He picks up everything to finish wall to wall maximun. It took lots of trys to get this recording but it can be done with fewer shots. It takes me 46 shotgun shells in this LMP but I did it with 44 twice (but did not achive some other element). Does anyone know what the minimun would be? (42 I think). The stats are: Kills 100% Items 100% Secrets 100% TIME 2:49 PAR 1:30 Comments : I was going to include the first recording of each of the assigned levels but three things changed my mind: 1. I could not get logged onto cdrom to upload the prepared sets. 2. Working on my Doom 1 Masters changed my perspective somewhat. If these LMP's are not good, the opportunity is lost until another title is requested. 3. Jim Hajjar thought some of the original set were "pretty lame". Most of the LMPs are 100% 100% 100% and end with 200% health & armor, not because the Marine avoids damage but because he saves health and armor till everything is disposed of. Map 5 Map 5 is super fun to blitz and I have recorded it lots of times in multi LMP recordings. I try to pick everything up and finish with 200% health and armor. The stats are: Kills 100% Items 100% Secrets 100% TIME 8:08 PAR 1:30 Map 15 This Map caused me lots of problems. It took a lot of fumbling and bumbling before I learned that to do this level well would take a thoughtful plan. I had read Section 15 in Frank's document but until I got to this Map it had no real meaning. Same thing as above, pick up everything possible and finish with 200% health and armor. (I used the exit to Map 31 and lose about 10% health & armor in the slime. There was a spare suit, near the stairs surrounded by Lava, that could have been used to prevent this but I felt it would have added more time than it was worth to get it.) The stats are: Kills 100% Items 100% Secrets 90% TIME 18:26 PAR 3:30 Map 28 This is the only LMP from the original set that was not replaced. Mostly because by the time it was started I had a lot better understanding of what it took to make a good LMP. The other reason is that the poor Marine in this LMP gets down to single digit health several times and is even down to 1% just before going into the pit with the 2 Spider-Masterminds and 11 Arachnotrons. Still it ends ok. Same drill, pick everything in sight up and end with 200% health and armor. The stats are: Kills 100% Items 100% Secrets 100% TIME 20:26 PAR 7:00 Author info : First, I would like to thank Steffen Winterfeldt & Jonathan Hoof for making some excellent recordings. If you have not seen one, get some of them. I learn something new with each viewing (especially DOOM2NM.LMP). They are like huge, visual, secrets files. Everything Frank wrote in the DHT5 document is good advise, mostly I know from learning the hard way. If you are thinking of getting an Honorific Title, watch lots of other LMPs and also make and watch lots of your own. Before starting an LMP, have a goal in mind then work on developing a style. I personally always try to be the aggressor and take the fight forward; use the shotgun on everything possible; get monsters to fight each other; and chainsaw anything that seems safe for that purpose. I had practiced a lot for this and thought I was ready, but working on this, and especially on my D1M LMPs has raised my skills a great deal and renewed my interest in Doom. But this project has to reach closure at some point so the enclosed files are my submissions for my first DOOM Honorific Title: Doom ][ Master.
