Frankly, it would have been handy ) ( when dealing with those nuisances known as Lost Souls. ) Free interpretation : I did MAP20 (Gotcha) on Ultra Violence with 100% Kills and 100% Secrets. I chose this map since it is excluded from assignment due to its difficulty. There were two reasons behind this: (1). very recently someone posted in the doom newsgroups on the Net that he had completed his Doom Master exam. He caught a lot of flak from a number of people who said big deal cause a lot people could do his assigned levels with one hand tied behind their backs, literally. I chose Map20 in order to anticipate exactly that sort of objection; and (2). I would have preferred to do Raven1.wad on UV for my free interpretation since it allows for some serious "styling", like killing the archville with a combat shotgun. Fact is, I'm tired of id's levels for solo play. So, I decided to pick a level from the excluded "Hardest" Base for D2M. At least I got to kill an archvile eventhough I had to waste rockets on him. Comments : Map31: this one was easy, I tried to avoid using heavy weapons but ran out of ammo and had to use 2 rockets on 2 demons. In fact, only difficulty that this level presents is sparsity of ammo. Map30: I was bummed to find I'd been assigned this level. It's not hard, just a pain since it's a matter of timing and luck. (Fact is I never tried finishing this level before.) Luck comes into it because sometimes as you riding up an archvile or a couple of pain elementals get created. It can be done much faster once you've mastered firing a rocket while jumping off the platform. Map18: although it's classified as "Hard", I'd say it's only medium hard since you can get almost all the monsters to kill each other by circle strafing and doing some broken field running. Once that's done, it's a cakewalk. (Another reason for chosing Map 20 as my "free interpretation." Map20: unlike the assigned levels, this one was an "Instant Carnage". The dance was done in the south "guard house" on top of the door. Main problem in this level is there's only 7 rockets available to take out the winner of the Cyberdemon vs. Spider MasterMind battle. That's why I didn't hide behind the red panel: I wanted the Spider MM to get the first licks. Other thing is it's real dicey trying to take out the archvile with a combat shotgun while watching out for the Baron. But I did get to fight the other one with a shotgun :-) Then of course there's those Lost Souls: they got me down to 1% twice! This one deserves the classification of "Hardest". Author info : They call me Bowman because I like rockets. I'm a Ph.D. student in philosophy. It probably shows in that I don't know how to stop writing. So, I'll just shut up now. (:-{D
