This is a DHT4 exam file. Its place is in the doom/dht-exams directory. The DOOM Honorific Titles Created by Frank Stajano on 1994 05 01 Jonathan Hoof hereby conquers the title of DOOM 2 Incubus. Exam file name: D2I-JRH.ZIP Title conquered: DOOM 2 Incubus Author: Jonathan Hoof Completion date: 1995 May 28 Log Entry: CHAL: D2I JRH Jonathan "Hunter" Hoof 02 31 06 FLL-LFL-RLL : Jonathan Hoof Game and version used: DOOM II v. 1.9 Substitutions? MAP06 for MAP18 System used: 486DX/2 66Mhz with Hercules Dynamite VLB, sb16 compatible sound card with stereo digital sound + headphones (so I know where sounds come from) Controls used: keyboard + Logitech trackball with keyboard redefined: a : speed on e : forward d : backward s : move left (strafing left, I use trackball for direction) f : move right (strafing) all other keys same middle mouse button: strafe right mouse button : forward I recently discovered a neat tool that makes recording Doom II lmps much easier: F5. Lo-res mode significantly increases frame rate, and frame rate=faster reaction time. It's cool, try it! Expansion levels: MAP30 (Medium) and 18 (Easy) Free interpretation: MAP 19, Respawn, 100% secrets, 3 keys (only 2 needed to end level). Comments: MAP02: At first, I thought this would be too difficult (attrition by oversteroided lead tossers). And it was, until I rewatched Steffen Winterfeldt's famous doom2nm lmp (a run of MAP01-MAP13, nightmare) and was inspired to give this another go. Using many of his tactics, I did indeed suceed. A bitch, yet doable. MAP06: This might be doable, yet I had trouble even doing a test run where I saved every step of the way, so that I didn't have to cover old ground. Maybe something Steffen might do.....? (in his doom2nm run, he had far superior firepower to wield when reaching this level, which made things a little easier) MAP18: Easy, if you move quickly, know where to go, and use both invulns. Watch for strategy, it's quite simple. MAP30: Same as at any other difficulty setting, except more of the baddies are problematic. Took about 20 tries. Medium difficulty only because the hard set (map06) is so damned hard. MAP31: Phidias N Bourlas showed the marvel of the partial invisibility with this level. All those rapid-fire blue guys rarely hit with that thing. Just get it and run! FREE: Gary Cauthan, who beat my Lightning-type lmp time on brains.cc.rl.ac.uk/pub/doomlmps (I had done it in 8:37, he did it in 7:48) suggested to me to do a wad he had difficulty with that involved some sort of castle/fortress (I wasn't able to ID the name and he didn't know it). Unfortunately DHT5 rules prohibit outside wads, so I did the next best thing, attack the fortress in Doom II: Map 19. To throw some spice I did it with respawn (few free lmps so far have used this feature), and required 100% secrets. To my surprise this turned out to be harder than I thought. GENERAL: Tough as hell, but not as bad as Tyson. The god of nightmare, in my opinion is Steffan Winterfeldt, with that famous lmp of his, and much can be learned by watching him (he also did the only Doom I E1M3 nightmare lmp I have seen, which I had asserted was impossible, but is available via Frank Stajano's web page, http://www.cam-orl.co.uk/~fms/dht.html). If he reads this I suggest this one feat: Doom I Swartzenneger. If anyone can do it, he can, and that would be one hell of a movie, as well as permanently place him as the best non-deathmatch doomer of all time in the eyes of the DHT title system. One more title, D1GM and I'll be the first to complete all Doom I & II regular and advanced titles! Then it's on to D2L. Author info: Theatre major at Lewis and Clark College (when I'm not playing doom). I hobby in computers, and models. I also like Deathmatch.
