The DOOM Honorific Titles Created by Frank Stajano on 1994 05 01 William Wheeler hereby conquers the title of DOOM 1 Speedy Gonzales. Exam file name: D1SG-WDW Title conquered: DOOM 1 Speedy Gonzales Author: William D. Wheeler Completion date: 1996 07 19 Game and version used: The Ultimate DOOM Assigned levels: E1M3 E1M5 E2M1 Log entry: CHAL: D1SG WDW William D. What's special is that one the only weapon used was bezerk fists and that I end with 200% health and armor. There was one point where I did lose quite a bit of health, though, because my strafe left key stuck, so this left me vunerable and I lost around 40% health. I did recover to end 'perfectly' though. Comments: This is my first title and I just got it today. Needless to say, it's not at all difficult. But it's a good warmup of what's to come as I intend on competing for some advanced DHT titles (which I also got today). E1M3: It was assigned as easy, but as far as I was concerned, it was the hardest of the lot. What makes it rough is the fact that it's cramped with little maneuvering space and it's densely populated. But the par time was high, so it didn't really matter. Time- 0:54 Par- 2:00 E1M5: This level has all the elements of a classic deathmatch and solo-play level. After E1M3, it wasn't at all difficult to swerve my way through those monsters. Time- 1:26 Par- 2:45 E2M1: What really slows you down is that last cacodemon in the rising staircase. You have to get up there to flip that switch, but you just sit there and wait until he comes out. The demons that swarm you by the lowering wall were a pain, but there is plenty of health anyway. Time- 0:54 Par- 1:30 Author info: Just another student hacker. Started playing DOOM way back when in December 1993 and quickly kicked the crap out of it with default keyboard keys. Sat on it for two years, and now only realizing it's appeal have started playing it again. I am a Wing Commander nut, so I love to play them all. When I started playing Descent I saw how much potential the 3D genre has for entertainment. With mouse and separate strafe keys, I play DOOM much better and therefore better enjoy pointing your gun at someone and shooting. Quake is fun in it's own right, but lacks the sheer 'zing' that makes it so playable. But as a C programmer and UNIX junkie, Quake's very superior in terms of customization.
