CURRENT.CATegories... ANNOUNCEMENT... sorry about the shouting ;-) * DooM (and DooM II) LMP's "Competition" Site * ------------------------------------------- Has moved and is now on FTP.CDROM.COM :-) Every .LMP (that can be converted to version 1.9 format) has been Converted to Version 1.9 Format - This is now a Ver. 1.9 [ Only ] .LMP's Site. If you're going to upload any more DooM (or DooM II) Entries, Please Record them using Versions 1.9... or Else ;-) 1) Introduction . 2) "Site" Info. + 3) 9 Categories - 4) Files So Far <--- See separate text/post - CURRENT.FILes 5) More Info. ? X) Thanks To... 1) Introduction NoW long ago I noticed (actually I was "made" to notice) that The DooM (Only?) Site "Infant2" was getting, well, rather full and so was rejecting certain types of DooM contributions (LMP recordings were one of the first) and deleting others (eg. the "official" id upgrade patches - Really!) so here is my [temporary] attempt at a sort of replacement. ** [temporary] now equals on-going !!! :-) This will begin as just a collection of DooM (and DooM II) .LMP's that will, hopefully, eventually, depending on the amount of dis- interest, evolve into a "Competition" to create the very best set of DooM (and DooM II) .LMP file recordings that "you lot" can put together. 2) "Site" Info. Site Name :- FTP.CDROM.COM [ Used to be "BRAINS..." IP Number :- ... But it got Fragged ] Login as "anonymous" and use your full E-mail as Password CD to PUB/DooM/LMPS/COMPET-N/...etc... And then... First type "BIN" for binary mode... And have a quick snoop around... "GET" whatever you like... The .TXT files first... Then "QUIT" Out. 0README.1ST, 0README.2ND & COMPET-N.TXT would be a good choice to begin with... :-) 3) 9 Categories Here's a (rather) brief run through of each of my suggested DooM (and DooM II) "Competition" Categories :-) Category 1 - "The DooM Levels" Each of the Individual DooM Levels... Alternatively Any TEN Consecutive Levels... ] Starting with just the Pistol and 100% Health AND Additionally Fastest II Possible! Right down to the very last Second Increasing Skill Level .LMP Recordings of DooM II - as MOVIEs... "Beginning to Death" FAST! eg. by Doom2 -Skill SK -Warp LV -MaxDemo 1024 -Record filename Entries will be found OR... in the DIR-ectory : in the DIR-ectory : COMPET-N\DOOM2\10LVS COMPET-N\DOOM2\MOVIE and will be named : and will be named : ttttSKlv.ZIP lvSKtttt.ZIP Where "tttt" is the Time taken in "MMSS" (Minutes and Seconds) format taken as dictated by the DooM engine only (and not by any stop-watch) And "lv" is either the "10LVS" STARTING Level - because the *tttt* is the most important factor OR it is the last completed "MOVIE" level - and only THEN does the *tttt* become the desciding factor. SK is the Skill - 1 (ITy), 2 (NTr), 3 (Hm), or 4 (UV!) or even 5 (NM!) eg. COMPET-N\DOOM2\10LVS\1621HM01.ZIP - in 16:21 - SK. 3 - ONE to 10 or. ( Two weeks ;-) Category 8 - [ Reserved for ] "Heretic on Speed" Each of the Individual Heretic Levels... Quickest Possible! Right down to the very last Second "Ultra Violence" (Only) .LMP Recordings of Episode 1 Mission 1 thru Episode 3 Mission 9 Starting with just the "Pistol" and 100% Health Judged Purely on the Time Taken But since Heretic "-Record"-ing is "broken" - it uses the equivalent of the "DooM V.1.2 engine" - I say - "Wait until it's fixed!" ( Two weeks ;-) Category 9 - [ Reserved for ] "DooM and DooM II NightMare" Just Record Any _Completed_ Level/s at "-Skill 5" [ with or without 100% Kills ] And Upload it !!! The Main Emphasis here is on the *Time* Taken - with this dictated by the DooM "Tally Screen" shown at the end of each level completed. Please, let the tally screen tick through and then wait 10-20 seconds before cleanly quitting the game to record your level. The One Hard "Competition" Rule! - 1 of 1 :- If the Time Taken Can NOT be Clearly Seen - It'll be DISqualified !!! And this is where I usually add... Except for "Rule" 2 of "1" ;-) Please - Absolutely NO "PAUSE-ing" !!! But I'll modify this to ... NO Pause-ing on single levels except for Only 1*1 min Pause on a difficult DooM II Level I was going to say NO Pause-ing on complete Episodes but... No excessive Pausing, any more than 1*3 or 3*1 min Pauses - Auto-DISq 4) Files So Far [ Chopped !! - See CURRENT.FIL ] If you wish to contribute some entries of your own please do view the examples, as well as read through the whole of COMPET-?.TXT - contributions not conforming to the suggested standards; ie. with limited pausing, the required waiting at the end, and packaged as a .ZIP with the .LMP file and also a .TXT and .BAT files; may get slightly delayed in being moved to their proper locations ;-( Also, if you could (for the present time) concentrate on "filling the gaps", eg. the Original DooM Levels - rather that beating the current best timed entries, that would be great! 5) More Info. ? If you want to know more about the "rules" - actually just a neat set of guidelines - on making your own (acceptable) contributions or want to suggest a new "Competition Category", say for example, multi-player co-operative levels, or perhaps a Hurt-Me-Plenty try at getting as far into DooM II before getting killed... read more in the file/s... PUB\DOOM\LMPS\COMPET-N\0README.2ND AND PUB\DOOM\LMPS\COMPET-N\COMPET-N.TXT X) Thanks To... id Software - For... Errmmm... I forget... Something...
