========================================================================================================= Title : The Challenge Filename : octavia.wad Author : Van Sederburg Email Address : vps@onramp.net Misc. Author Info : This is my first attempt, so please let me know what you think! Description : This is my attempt at bring an old Dungeons & Dragons story of mine to life. The setting is the City of Octavia, capital city of a medieval world (what a shock). An underground labrinth is located beneath the palace grounds and functions as a kind of underground gladiator arena. It's called The Challenge. In the D&D story, there were two entrances, one to admit each combatant, but only one could legally leave. The winner received all manner of wealth, plus the right to live in the palace as a guest, awaiting the next challenger (yeah, I had the first deathmatches, so there). The story for Heretic has been modified as follows: The challenge arena was in use by two rival wizards, who somehow managed to open a rift to Hell in the process of killing each other. Nobody knows how they did it, so nobody knows how to send them all back. Therefore, as you may have guessed, it's up to you to go in and clean up the mess. As you descend the stairs to the depths, you immediately feel the force of the evil below you pushing you back up and out. It takes all your strength just to make it down the stairs. As you burst out of the staircase into the lower hallways you remember what the King's advisor told you... "parts of the Challenge were intentionally to fight against the you, and the creatures that inhabit it now have been there long enough to understand that." ========================================================================================================= * Play Information * Episode and Level # : E1M1 Single Player : Yes Cooperative 2-4 Player : Yes Deathmatch 2-4 Player : Yes (but not tested) Difficulty Settings : Yes (you can play each level with no cheat codes, so be a real warrior and use your guts and brains instead of the codes.
