rrd201.wad Levels for Doom2 v1.9 ============================================================================= Title : rr levels release 01 as rrd201.zip Filename : rrd201.wad Author : Robert L. Ross (aka: Flounder) E-mail Address : rosfam01@ais.net Misc. Author Info : blame me alone Description : Six new levels from scratch PLUS a level from the outline presented in the book "Tricks of the Doom Programming Gurus". I have tried to create a blend of technical design, game play, and interesting challenges. The balance point of difficulty and power-ups was meant to make the levels playable. It is possible to play even on difficulty level "Hurt me plenty" without the codes -- but you either have to know what's coming up next or save a lot. I have never played co-op or deathmatch -- from the pwads I have seen -- these will probably not be very good for either application. They were originally intended to be played as individual levels -- so if they are played in sequence you may notice an overabundance of power-ups, weapons, and ammo -- but that should not be a problem -- just pick up enough of what you need to make it interesting. (HECK, THE MONSTERS NEVER RUN OUT OF AMMO!) It will run on Doom2 1.666 or 1.9. Not for the inexperienced player -- you need to know the tricks of Doom play, how to use the map, and (maybe -- wimp) the cheat codes. Since it is a straight patch wad replacement there is no "installation" required. Just un-zip the file, then copy to your doom directory and type: doom2 -file rrd201.wad Additional Credits to: id Software (thank you, everyone!). The gang that put together "Tricks of the Doom Programming Gurus" for getting me started. Matthew Ayres (WADED). Ben Morris (DCK). Glen Payne & Mathew Bostwick (OSIRIS) for demonstrating that you do not have to do it all at once. Chad Moore (WOTDOOM3) for his kind words and getting me to finish. ==================== Play Information ====================================== Episode and Level # : maps 01-07. Single Player : Yes. Anyone that can duplicate the base files in less than a few man-weeks gets my vote. Then I spent almost as much time matching textures and making sure I had the effects I wanted, surprises I expected, and that the darn things actually ran -- every time. I did each level to stand alone and never intended to actually release them, much less as a set -- but a labor of love should be shared -- so here they are. I need to thank my family for acting as beta testers and for putting up with the occasional "fits" when I hit the wall -- but I think they are pretty good -- playable and difficult -- and good looking. PLEASE enjoy them -- that was the secondary intent of the exercise. If you find errors -- please keep them to your self. If you enjoyed them -- please let me know. If you need help -- read the next section first. If you still get hung -- let me know -- I will e-mail hints on request. HINTS -- general Teleports have more than one face. If you can't get there -- you probably were not supposed to -- at least yet. If you can't get out of a section -- you still need to find/do something. Every author has patterns -- get into their head. No BFG under difficulty level three. If all else fails -- shoot it. See if you can find the two level effect. ====================== Copyright / Permissions ============================== Authors MAY use these levels or elements as a base to build additional levels.
