================================================================ Title : Circus Maximus Filename : Rome1_1.wad Author : Patrick Patriarca (all graphics , concept and final decision on all changes) Co-Author : Jason Pratt (Sound, music changes and exit changes) Email Address : patrick.patriarca@studio.com : jason.pratt@studio.com Description : FIRST. IF you have the ROME1.WAD this is an upgrade (version 1.1) to that wad. We have made major changes in music and sounds. Thus the increased size. This is my first wad. Ever. It is an original, from scratch wad nearly scale replica of the Circus Maximus in Ancient Rome. If you have ever seen the movie Ben Hur, the chariot race was held in an arena like this one. This replica is taken from a scale model of the original Circus Maximus as it looked in Empirial Times. The west end is higher for DOOMish reasons. The physical scale model exists in the Museo della Civilta Romana (Museum of Roman Civilization) in Rome, Italy. I own a large poster of a photograph of that model. Cool! I intend to make a series of wads taken from the same scale model of the ancient city of Rome. The series will be the ROME series of wads. As I make them I will merge them. Sound and music changes should continue. Sorry for any confusion with Rome1.WAD. I am not sure if changes in music and sounds on one wad would make it incapatible with the same graphics wad with differant music. SO I took the liberty on renaming it Rome 1_1.WAD as in version 1.1. Other wads of this series should be numbered Rome2.wad etc. since music and sound changes will go in from the beginning. The Story The creatures from hell have occupied the Eternal Holy City of Rome and have begun to rebuild from the ruins various monuments and structures of Rome and use them for their typically devious purposes. We have underestimated their powers. You came to the walls of the city with a trader. You awaken in a room to find yourself with only a pistol and your fists. And Berserker packs. That's it. Last night the trader said you could sleep there. He never said it was one of the creatures storerooms. You know are just off the Appian Way. Trader said so. You must fight to the Capan Gate. THE gate to the City of Rome. On the other side of the Gate is the Circus Maximus. To it's right is the Septizodium Severi. Let the games begin! S.P.Q.R. (Senatus Populusque Romanus) ================================================================ * Play Information * Episode and Level # : Map 01 Single Player : Yes Cooperative 2-4 Player : Yes Deathmatch 2-4 Player : Yes (definitely) Difficulty Settings : Yes New Sounds : Yes. Jason Pratt worked hard to import a series of overlayed Heretic door opening sounds (stone against stone instead of metallic doors in Roman times) . New Graphics : No New Music : Jason Pratt imported "99 Ways to Die" by Megadeth Demos Replaced : None Hint: Use your fists at the beginning. When playing MoDOOM co-op DO NOT collect rockets and plasma until you get the Rocket Launcher and Plasma Gun. You (may) WILL likely die (especially in modem play) and lose the rockets which you WILL need. * Construction * Base : From Scratch. Editor(s) used : DoomCad 5.1 and BSP 12 (thanks to Jason Pratt for running the wad thru BSP 12 innumerable times at virtually any time I asked). Known Bugs : None ... it may run a tad slow in Ultra-Violence . At 144 it seemed to play well...kill many monsters and it will speed up ! * Copyright / Permissions * Copyrighted (1995) by Last Canal Chronicles. NO ONE may use this or change it in any way other than to play it in the DOOM ][ game. I put ALOT of donated time (300 + hours ) into learning to use the editors , getting the scale right , reading up on the history getiting graphics to scale and beta testing. And I don't get a dime. I did it because I liked it and hope you all will too. So please don't take my work. Enjoy it. Thanks to Jason Pratt for running it thru BSP 12 and building the nodes, beta testing with me and encouraging me to continue and cut back on the monsters to speed the game up. He also helped me decide on and design the exit ...he did the "invisible " walk thru exit which allows for a smoother transition from wad to wad in this series. He also made some good suggestions on some textures. I have not put the colored strips that normally are on the side of the doors requiring keys in order to maintain the realism . Likewise the exit is not marked but shall we say OBVIOUS once you get to it. Thanks to ID for a GREAT modular game allowing us to act out our fantasies. Thanks to the Museo della Civilta Romana for the scale poster of Ancient Rome. Thanks to Terry Riedel for doing one of the final Beta tests on Co-op (Rome1_1.wad) . And of course his feedback. Thanks to Jon Odom for testing Rome1_1.wad and Rome1DM.WAD and agreeing with choice of "99 Ways..." by Megadeth. Thanks again to Megadeth for "99 Ways to Die." If any of you guys play Doom (you should try it) let me know what you think of the music and the wad. It seemed to fit so great. There's no money involved so I hope you like it. Sorry for the confusion with Rome1.WAD ... but it was out and the changes sounded SO good. Sooooo thats why the 1.1 upgrade ... * Where to get this WAD * Studio PC : (813)862-8850 Board of Trade: (813)862-4772 Software Creations: (508)365-4035
