Ugly or not. ============================================================================= Map by map info: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map01 (On Hell's Horizion) Author : Robert Babor (Ship by Devon West) Year Created : Started in 1997, revamped on and off until 2002 Ship made in 2004 MIDI : Comments : Went through several redesigns, was never finished to expectations and probably never will. The boat is from an old DM map of Devon's that he remade to be the start of a new version of 'Baron Streets'. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map02 (The Forsaken) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1996 MIDI : Original music by Slayer Comments : This level is super outdated, and it shows, the gameplay remains decent though. Did a quick re-texture though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map03 (The Nether World) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1996 MIDI : Comments : Again another old old level, some will call it filler, I call it nostalgic.. but yeah, it's crap :P ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map04 (Brickyard) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : Started in 1997, was currently under revamping MIDI : Doom2 Comments : Again never finished.. had an original revamp done by Brad Spencer, but basically everything he did was completely revamped again.. gah, being a perfectionist sucks.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map05 (The Mines of Dismay) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1997 MIDI : Ultimate Doom Comments : Theme.. there is none, but it's a decent level for it's age. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map06 (Conquest) Author : Devon West (Great 'last second' revamp by Chris Hansen!) Year Created : 1996, revamped by the almighty speed revamp master in 2004 MIDI : Ultimate Doom Comments, Devon : The idea started off good enough, but lost it quickly. Outdated and ugly. Comments, Chris : Ugly, yeah. Potential, hell yeah! This level has some interesting layouts and I love the way it varies in architecure. I also happen to love the way it reeks of classic Doom atmosphere! I just dressed it up a little and corrected a few no-no's. I would have loved to have spent more time on this one... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map07 (Death's Door) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1996 MIDI : Comments : Challenging gameplay, that is, if you don't jump on the demons.. again old and never revamped. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map08 (Stellar Phenomenon) Author : Brad Spencer (original by Devon West) Year Created : Started in 1997 by Devon West, revamped by Brad in 2003 MIDI : Comments, Devon : One of the happiest revamps of any map in Hellcore. Way back when a wee lad, this was one of my best and most enjoyable maps. Of course current day standards changed along with my skill, so this map got old and decrepit. I absolutely love what Brad did to it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map09 (Bloodlust) Author : Devon West Year Created : 1997 MIDI : Comments : First time I ran into visplane problems. Fun gameplay but the effects and visuals are garbage compared to what I can do now. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map10 (Conquest) Author : Devon West Year Created : 1998 MIDI : Comments : Rubbish ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map11 (Jaded) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1998 MIDI : Comments : You may see a revamp of this map that will blow you away, that is if i ever get around to making it... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map12 (Too Quiet) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1998 MIDI : Original Music by Slayer Comments : Shitty level enjoy! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map13 (The Wicked) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1996 MIDI : Ultimate Doom Comments : Extremely old map, but for it's age, quite nice.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map14 (Circle of Trinity) Author : Devon West Year Created : 1996 MIDI : Comments : Probably the second level I ever made. It was a fun map... 8 years ago. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map15 (Underworld) Author : Chris Hansen (original by Robert Babor) Year Created : Started in 1998 by Robert Babor, revamped by Chris Hansen in 2002 MIDI : Comments, Chris : I fell for this one immediately! Intrigueing layout and an evil action packed gameplay with a good and very playable way of leading the player around! I used a lot of my experiences from my Flay The Obscene series in this one and just tried to make it look like a very nasty place. Clean and polished with a few new textures and a lot of baddies! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map16 (Tryx 'n Traps) Author : Devon West Year Created : 2002 MIDI : Blood Comments : First map I made when I became a 'good' wadauthor. Still not happy with it but it's better than my older maps. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map17 (Packaging/Shipping) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1998 MIDI : Ultimate Doom Comments : You'll hate me for making this monster sized map. It will take over an hour to beat.. This map was the first to push doom2 far past it's limits and push hellcore into the realm of source ports and limitless viseplanes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map18 (Sect of Power) Author : Brad Spencer Year Created : 2003 MIDI : Comments, Darkfyre : I can't find Brad, so I'll do the honor of commenting here. This, I believe, was the first map to be completed for Hellcore. An incredibly nostalgic doom1'ish map. It's big, it's appealing it's fun and a great challenge. Hope you folks enjoy it! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map19 (Baron Streets) Author : Devon West Year Created : 1998 MIDI : Unknown midi Comments : I always wanted to make a city map. This was the next map I was going to remake to look realistic to the last detail, but I havn't had the time. A damn shame really, I still have never played a realistic 'city' doom map. Maybe someday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map20 (Central Docking) Author : Devon West / Some rework by Albert Sposito Year Created : 1999 MIDI : Strife Comments, Devon : I felt like making a space station. Had some good ideas but this map lacks a lot of detail to todays standards. Comments, Ismaele : Of course this map was very good in the concept and had a great potential. I improved somethings, adding some more little details to get a nice ambience and a decent graphic. Since I couldn't reach high results with the previous layout, I thought to remake it, but school forced me to stop my work. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map21 (Toxic Waste Treatment Centre) Author : Albert Sposito Year Created : 2003 MIDI : Comments : It is my first and only attempt to make a level with a sort of urban theme. It presents challenging difficulty, fun gameplay and nice graphics. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map22 (Vestibule of War) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 2001 MIDI : Blood Comments : Unfinished, threw in crazy gameplay for the Hell of it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map23 (Vestibule of Plague) Author : Devon West Year Created : 2001 MIDI : Blood Comments : Last map I made before I became a decent author. This is when I started sticking to themes and better texturing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map24 (Parasite Dawn) Author : Devon West Year Created : 2004 MIDI : Resident Evil Comments : Last map I made for Hellcore. Some areas need work, but all in all I'm happy with it. The difficulty was set to be map03. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map25 (Tribulation) Author : Devon West Year Created : 1998 MIDI : Hexen Comments : Who loves strobing lights and viles? Again, good for it's time, crap today. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map26 (Sheer Chaos) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1995 MIDI : Comments : The map that started it all, Ah yes this was the very first doom map I made.. And the map that made me decide to make a 32 level megawad.. oh god what a mistake that was heh. Anyway, lack of detail, blocky, triangle corridors and poorly placed monsters will have you cringing and wondering why you even downloaded Hellcore in the first place. Bah to hell with you all! I know it sucks, you know it sucks, there's always idclev. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map27 (UAC Compound) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1995 MIDI : Comments : The second level I ever created. Again you will love to hate it. The gameplay is so brutal, that you will be running down 64x64 corridors wondering where to go next, only to find out that you had to hit a switch on the opposite end of the map over and over again.. Please don't hate me, hate my maps instead. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map28 (Massacre) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : Started in 1996, was currently under revamping MIDI : Doom2 Comments : Enjoyable gameplay for it's time. Unfortunately I lost the revamped version of this map, and frankly havn't felt like redoing it. Atleast I salvaged part of the beginning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map29 (Nightmare's Requiem) Author : Devon West Year Created : 2003 MIDI : Freddy's theme Comments : First map I ever made, so it was only suiting I should remake it to my current standards. Gameplay and enemies need work, but it's still playable and fun if you like challenges. What 'I' think are some nice visuals. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map30 (Hellcore) Author : Robert Babor Year Created : 1999 MIDI : Comments : Crappy boss level made in literaly 10 minutes, was not meant to be even in the wad, just was for fun. However it looks like it's gonna be included anyway, so enjoy this POS... and yes it is beatable. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map31 (Ample Prey) Author : Devon West Year Created : 1998 MIDI : Ultimate Doom Comments : I just wanted to make a hard yet fun map. Looks terrible but I still find it fun to play... sort of... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level : Map32 (Seclusion 'D') *ZDoom only* Author : Robert Babor & Devon West Year Created : 2004 MP3 : Max Payne Comments, Darkfyre : The last level me and Fusion were working on. Unfinished, glitches everywhere, no exit, but still rather appealing I think. This entire map is drawn out and scripted on paper tacked to my bulletin board, it's a shame it never got finished... You must idclev to get to this map. ============================================================================= * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY NOT use these LEVELS, GRAPHICS, MUSIC, or TEXTURES as a base to build additional levels without permission from the authors. Author Info : Yes I'm the one responsible for all this madness.. Back in 95', i decided to create a level (level 26).. then i thought, "wouldn't it be cool if the level's connected?". (At the time, i had never seen a set of levels do this) Anyway, after level 26 was done, i whipped up level 27, and connected the exits.. Hellcore was born. I told Darkfyre about my plan and he was instantly interested in creating a megawad.. Unfortunately we didn't continue to connect maps as most of the maps had 0 planning to them initially.. until we became more advanced.. Anyway, i hope you enjoy this old relic, as we all spent years making it. All of my levels were never completed; and i believe it's due to my biggest flaw, perfectionism. I'm rarely happy with levels i produce, as i always have much bigger ambitions for them.. Again Enjoy! ============================================================================= Author : Devon West (Darkfyre) Email Address : darkfyre_rn@hotmail.com Home Page : Other Files By Author : Complexive Hell Misc. Author Info : Hellcore was created roughly the same time I got into editing. Since it's start I've fallen in love with editing, and made levels for Duke3d, Half-life, Hexen and more. However they also all fell in the 'never released' file because I'm too much of a damn perfectionist. It pains me to see this being unfinished, but atleast somebody somewhere will go through it and enjoy playing my levels. My thanks goes to the team who worked hard on contributing to the project, some of the most talented minds in the doom community, and I'm flattered I was able to work with them. ============================================================================= Author : Brad Spencer (Vorpal) Email Address : vorpal@arsenal.net Home Page : http://hellcore.hotcut.com/spencer/ Other Files By Author : Select maps from Alien Vendetta Misc. Author Info : Brad is MIA, so I shall give a quick low-down on the legend. At a time when I had fallen away from editing, and Fusion later too, it was Brad who kept the project going. When he finished map18 and I saw it, the nostalgia brought me right back to good 'ol Hellcore. I quickly hopped back to the helm and basically yelled at people for not making enough maps ;) Yes, I am a hypocrite. Nonetheless, if not for Brad, there wouldn't be any 'decent' levels in here at all, and the project probably would've died right then and there with ugly 1996 maps. Unfortunately, in spite of my efforts, the project came to a deadlock and this really displeased me. Although I think that it could have been completed, if every member of the team had devoted himself to it, I must thank the bosses (Fusion and Darkfyre) for the great occasion they gave me and all the team for the very useful experience, both in real life and Doom editing.
