** ** NOTE: Play this level with a source port such as ZDooM (on which it has ** been thoroughly play-tested), which allows jumping and high detail. ** With DOOM2.EXE it will crash immediately with vis_plane errors. ** You will NEED a port that allows jumping. ================================================================ Title : Military Research Complex Filename : COMPLEX.WAD Author : Gurkha Boy Email Address : gurkha_boy@yahoo.com Other work from author : Pugilist.wad, a 3-level fist-only series set in WWII Fear_Isl.wad, a single level Decimate.wad, a single level They can be found in the ports directory of ftp.cdrom.com Misc. We have reason to believe that they are currently involved in a top-secret project for the Planetary Federation. Using genetic samples from the recent "incident" on the Phobos and Deimos moons of Mars, and the subsequent assault on Earth, UAC has begun transforming human "volunteers" into the mindless automatons we faced during these last conflicts. The purpose is to create a fighting force equal to the best in the galaxy. UAC's main research and experimentation facility is located in the heart of the Research Quadrangle, a heavily urban area. Our clients, the Omega Conglomerate, are rivals to UAC, and would love to steal the Planetary Federation Contract. They are willing to pay us a small fortune to set back UAC's research, steal some of their data, and shut down their operations if possible. Objectives -- Simple. Infiltrate, download their data records, neutralize any "samples" (mutated, cybernetically enhanced, or otherwise), then get the hell out. Operations -- To minimize complications, you will execute the operation on a holiday, when the facility is expected to have minimal staff and protection forces. Earth Liberation Day has been selected. (You will not fail to realize the irony of this choice.) We have managed to obtain an alpha-level security clearance that will gain you access into the perimeter, and not much else. You will need to acquire subsequent access into all other areas, including high security areas. Furthermore, as it is a holiday, the facility will be operating on stand-by power. Therefore, to penetrate the core of the complex you will first need to find the main power relay, which of course you will find in the Power Plant. Access to the Power Plant, however, is controlled from within the Octagon, the main research center. It will be up to you to discover a way in. Enter the Waste Processing Center, which is used to treat acid and organic wastes. This is where the "volunteers" that didn't quite make the cut are disposed of. It's not pretty, but it's integral to the UAC operations. Shut it down. It will also allow you access to the barracks, where Computer Card access to the secure areas of the Octagon is maintained by officers. In the Octagon, acquire the Computer Area Map. This not only holds invaluable research data, it will also help you navigate the complex. Explore the data processing centers, the laboratories, and the offices. Many of UAC's "subjects" have been put back to work at their original task functions, and you are likely to encounter many of them. Finally, locate the switching system that will unlock the doors to exit the installation. If you have any questions, write them on a piece of paper, roll it up into a tight wad, and stick it up your (insert reference to human orifice).
